Vermiculite No. 2 is a type of expanded clay that can be used for many uses within crops. Precisely, it is frequently used in hydroponic systems as an inert substrate or to cultivate in a very similar way as you do with clay balls. However, its most common use is to provide much more humidity to the substrate.

Description

Why use vermiculite No. 2 for plants?

Vermiculite No. 2 is a product capable of absorbing up to 5 times its weight , making it perfect for making substrate mixtures and providing humidity. An ideal mineral to mix with substrates and achieve greater aeration and hydration. There are substrates where it is difficult for water to soak in more or they dry easily. This is a problem in warmer areas. Since it is not as hard as expanded clay, the substrate in which vermiculite is integrated will be able to retain much more water . Likewise, the elasticity and lightness of vermiculite prevents caking and suffocation of the substrates, thus allowing the roots to breathe better . A physically balanced and non-aggressive product, chemically inert and aseptic from a biological point of view. So much so that it currently constitutes one of the best environments for the growth of your crop plants.

How to use vermiculite No. 2 for plants?

To use vermiculite No. 2 for plants, you should not exceed more than 5% of the volume of the pot, since otherwise you will have humidity problems in the substrate. You also run the risk of excess water and root rot due to lack of oxygen. That is why it is best to mix 2% vermiculite in the soil.
